She Spies
10:00 P.M.
-NBC-
The streets of America will be deserted of young men tonight as the
hotly anticipated series makes its debut. Three female ex-cons are
recruited by a mysterious branch of the government to serve as secret
agents. Natasha Henstridge ("Species") is Cassie, the comely con artist;
Kristen Miller is D.D., the beautiful computer hacker, and Natashia
Williams is Shane, the sexy tough girl. (Did we mention that these
gals are attractive?) After four episodes on NBC, this action/adventure
series will go into syndication.
Big Brother
3
8:00 P.M.
-CBS-
The show's producers have added the extra twist of "veto power" to
the game. Now the houseguests can compete on Saturday nights for the
opportunity to rescue a nominee from the threat of eviction and change
the power balance of the game. Here's a thought, instead of veto power,
why not give the contestants "Vito Power," the chance to beat another
houseguest mafia-style with a baseball bat. Hmm. Who should be the
first recipient? How about Josh?
Mermaids
8:00 P.M.
-The WB-
Christina Ricci made her film debut at the tender age of 10 in this
movie about the unusual bond between a mother and her two daughters.
In the early '60s, a free-spirited Jewish mom (Cher) has a tendency
to pack up and leave town whenever she ends a relationship. Her youngest
daughter, Ricci, is obsessed with swimming. The older girl, played
by Winona Ryder, is fixated on becoming a nun, despite the obvious
barriers. At least she's not getting into trouble at Saks.
Species
8:00 P.M.
-NBC-
It's a double dose of Natasha on NBC tonight. Ms. Henstridge made
her film debut in this Sci Fi/Horror flick. She stars as Sil, a beautiful
alien hybrid bent on destroying the human race. Marg Helgenberger
("CSI"), Ben Kingsley ("Sexy Beast") and Michael Madsen ("Reservoir
Dogs") also star.
Trading Spaces
- Colorado: Cherry Street
9:00 P.M.
-TLC-
A benign episode of this popular redecorating series turns to horror
as tumbleweeds attack host Paige Davis and carpenter Amy Wynn Pastor.
Designer Laurie Hickson-Smith adds to the carnage when she inflicts
large horizontal stripes on an innocent living room.
The Women
of Sex and the City
10:00 P.M.
-E!-
The cast and crew of the HBO series discusses the popularity of the
show and the sinister power rush they get from causing impressionable
young women to wear horseshoe necklaces and big plastic flowers.
Evolution
10:00 P.M.
-Cinemax-
David Duchovny and Julianne Moore are definitely slumming in this
silly Sci Fi adventure from Ivan Reitman. For "American Pie's" Seann
William Scott, however, this is a huge step up.
The Goonies
9:30 P.M.
-DISN-
A group of misfit children searching for pirate treasure screams,
shrieks and shouts until you are desperately rooting for the villains
to tie them up and gag them for heaven's sake. Josh Brolin,
Corey Feldman and Joe Pantoliano star.
Affliction
8:00 P.M.
-Bravo-
James Coburn won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance
as Nick Nolte's abusive father in this critcally acclaimed film. Sissy
Spacek and Willem Dafoe costar.
