It's Wednesday night, Aug. 7, and one contestant will win the power of veto on "Big Brother 3."
Last Saturday, Gerry used his position as HOH to break up one of the house's two power couples, Lisa and Eric. After the nominations, Lisa declares her hatred for Gerry as Eric vows revenge. Chiara notes that Gerry's tune has changed quite a bit since the "Good vs. Evil" speech he made when he vetoed Marcellas' nomination.
In any case, the two couples are so concerned they hardly groom themselves or sunbathe in this episode. It's very serious.
Their strategy is to approach Gerry individually and suggest Josh as a replacement nominee in the chance that one of them is vetoed. He tells both Lisa and Eric that their nominations were strategy moves, and that he is unlikely to put Josh up for eviction, even though Josh has delighted in torturing him for the past few weeks.
Everyone in the house is aware that Josh is so universally despised Charles Manson could defeat him in a popularity contest. The evil weasel has become indispensable because he is a guaranteed loser. To cement his status as house freak, Josh shaves a second mustache onto his chin.
This may or may not be the reason Danielle is grinding her teeth at night. Her roommates, Roddy, Chiara and Marcellas describe the sound as "rocks being crushed" or "bones being broken." "Big Brother 3." plays a recording of her teeth crunching together. Unless this is an exaggeration, it's a wonder the woman has a tooth left in her head each morning.
It's also possible that Danielle is just suffering from sexual deprivation. Along with Lisa and Chiara, she bemoans the lack of sex in her life since she's been locked up. The always-intense Danielle advises her husband to go to the gym and take vitamins, because she expects some loving when she gets home. Only her husband knows if this is good or bad news.
Both Lisa and Eric want to win the power of veto competition. Unfortunately for the pretty couple, the game hinges on logic and planning. Josh and Danielle want the power desperately, but Chiara ends up winning the medallion.
Roddy convinces Chiara that he would be nominated in the place of anyone she saved. Roddy wants his true love, Eric, to remain in the house, and tells Chiara that keeping him would benefit her in the long run. He's playing her, and she probably knows it, but she doesn't care. She tells Roddy that Lisa annoys her, and she's ready for her to go. Just to make it perfectly clear that she is a backstabbing little bitch, Chiara mocks Lisa's whiny voice.
This week's America's Choice competition decided which houseguest would receive a letter from their family. Each one of the players got to tell the camera what they missed most from the outside world. All of the parents wanted to hear from their kids, while a disturbing number of houseguests mentioned their cats.
It should be no surprise that Jason won. America loves Jason. He is beautiful and pure. He could kill Josh with a pickax on national television and no jury would convict him. Even Merritt would shrug it off.
When Jason reads the letter from his mother, he is overwhelmed with emotion. He rushes out of the diary room to share the experience with the other players. His mom says "hi" to everyone, and they love him for it. He even stops to thank America. For a brief moment, a halo is visible over his head.
Only Danielle knows that there is more to him than meets the eye. Their secret alliance is completely undetected by the other players. Roddy declares Jason the most trustworthy person he has ever known - if Jason is playing him, he deserves an Oscar. No one in the house thinks he is a threat. Boy, will they be surprised.
When the romantic music swells, the Eric & Lisa montage begins. Surprisingly enough, they seem to have developed genuine feelings for each other. Lisa believes that she is in love, and Eric may have forgotten that he has been using her. As they snuggle in bed, Lisa tells him that his actions in the house have been "the most romantic and most heart-touching things I've ever experienced." Eric replies, "Wow."
Wow indeed. It seems that there may be someone on earth who loves Eric more than Eric. When Lisa says that she would use veto power to save him so that he would not have to worry about being nominated, he seems truly touched.
Their salvation is in Chiara's hands, however, and Roddy has already made her decision. She does not overturn Gerry's nominations, because she does not want to lose her boy toy. Both Eric and Lisa say they understand her decision. Neither Eric nor Lisa believes that they will be voted out tomorrow.
Thursday night, one of them will face an awkward exit interview with Julie Chen.
