About.com
is a grouping of general information sites dedicated to several hundred
topics in different categories. Each topic's guide maintains their own
site; they write articles every week, and maintain a database of Internet
links to other websites which relate to their topic. Each guide is essentially
a freelancer paid and supervised by About.com corporate. Guides are paid
according to unique page views, so it was in our best interest to give
our audience exactly what they wanted. It was a great education in what
works and what doesn't as far as web entertainment and promotions go.
To read the official definition of what About.com is, you may want to
read their official company history here.
From November
1999 to July 2001, I was the co-guide for About.com's Hollywood Movies/Reviews
site. My responsibilites included researching, writing, editing and uploading
weekly articles. In addition, I was responsible for promoting the site
by sending weekly newsletters and posting promos in our site's Delphi
forum. When I was not creating features, it was my job to check and update
our vast catalog of links to other movie sites.
Unfortunately,
the Hollywood Movies/Reviews site is no longer available online. I have
saved the features I wrote for the site, which are listed below. All of
the interviews were obtained during the official press junkets for the
films, so all quotes are direct quotes. This content was linked to from
various sites, including Yahoo.com and IMDB.com. It was also syndicated
and made available on iSyndicate.com.
